Clubs and the city are promoting civic engagement at the Georg-Schüler-Anlage
Under the motto "Weekly Market Meets Volunteering," numerous Griesheim clubs and associations presented themselves at the Georg-Schüler-Anlage on May 22nd. The event took place as part of the nationwide Day of Volunteering and offered citizens the opportunity to learn about volunteer opportunities in Griesheim.
The city's contact persons for the topic of voluntary work were also on site and advised interested parties on various opportunities to get involved in clubs or social projects.
Clubs invited people to participate
The sunny weather created a relaxed atmosphere at the event grounds. The participating clubs provided information about their work and offered various hands-on activities.
The Griesheim Brass Band gave visitors the opportunity to try out their musical skills with funnels, recorders, and mouthpieces. The Griesheim Gymnastics and Sports Club presented its activities under the motto "Volunteering makes ideas grow." At the St. Stephan Sports Club, the focus was on information about volunteer opportunities. The Frohsinn Choral Society also took the opportunity to talk with interested individuals.
Advice on engagement opportunities
In addition to the club stands, the city's contact persons provided information about opportunities for voluntary engagement.
“For those interested in volunteering, it is especially important to be clear about where their own interests and strengths lie,” explained senior citizens' representative Stefanie Ondruch.
Corina Landau from the social services department referred to the volunteer search engine of the state of Hesse, which is intended to help citizens find suitable opportunities for involvement.
In addition, information was provided about the volunteer card, which offers various discounts and benefits to volunteers.
Volunteering as a pillar of democracy
The day of honor was first celebrated nationwide in 2026. The occasion was the anniversary of the Basic Law on May 23rd. The initiator and patron of the event is Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
Together with the German Foundation for Civic Engagement and Volunteering, the day of action aims to highlight the importance of voluntary engagement and encourage people to actively contribute to the common good.
