New offer strengthens support for older people
In Griesheim, community care services officially began their work on May 1, 2026. The aim of this new service is to support older people in particular, enabling them to live independently in their familiar surroundings for as long as possible.
Advice and support in everyday life
The new community nurse, Nadine Leonhardt, will play a central role as the contact person for questions concerning care, health and everyday life.
The offer includes, among other things:
- personal consultations
- Home visits to determine needs
- Support in organizing aid offers
- Facilitating contact with care services, doctors and social institutions
Community care services are intended as a supplementary, easily accessible point of contact. They do not provide medical or nursing care.
Focus on prevention and social support
A key focus is on providing early support to prevent burnout and loneliness. This aims to improve the quality of life for local residents in the long term.
Project funded by the state
The basis for this is the "Community Care" funding program of the Hessian Ministry for Social Affairs and Integration. The city council approved participation in September 2025.
The funding is provided 80 percent by the state of Hesse, while the city of Griesheim covers the remaining costs. The position is operated by the German Red Cross Darmstadt-Land branch.
Contact and availability
The community nurse is available Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Consultation appointments are available by prior arrangement.
The project is initially limited until the end of 2026, with the aim of extending it.
