New structure and second managing director from May 1st
The science city of Darmstadt is restructuring its economic development agency. As of May 1, 2026, it will be integrated into Darmstadt Marketing GmbH. At the same time, Daniel Pfeffer will be appointed as the second managing director alongside Anja Herdel.
Combining of location marketing and economic development
The reform aims to more closely integrate city marketing and economic development. The goal is a stronger external impact and a service-oriented approach for businesses.
Mayor Hanno Benz sees this as an important step for the future viability of the location. In times of global challenges, Darmstadt should be further strengthened as an attractive business location.
New Managing Director for operational implementation
Daniel Pfeffer, an experienced professional, is taking on additional responsibility. Alongside his work at HEAG, he will be involved in shaping the operational implementation of the new structure.
The integration is intended to help present the city holistically while simultaneously acting as a service provider for businesses.
Focus on existing companies
A key component of the strategy is increased support for existing businesses. In addition to attracting new businesses, the focus will be on intensifying support for existing ones.
The city relies on direct exchange with companies in order to identify challenges early and develop solutions.
Dialogue formats and participation
To strengthen the local economy, existing initiatives will be further expanded. These include discussions with business owners and roundtables focusing on individual locations.
In addition, an advisory board consisting of representatives from chambers of commerce, associations and trade unions monitors economic policy developments.
Goal: modern and efficient administration
Another focus is on reducing bureaucracy and digitizing administrative processes. Businesses should receive faster and more efficient support.
With this realignment, the city aims to further improve the conditions for innovation, growth and new businesses.
