Riedstadt seeks solutions after Vitos' announced withdrawal
The heating supply in the "Am Hohen Weg" neighborhood of the Goddelau district is undergoing a restructuring. The current supplier, Vitos Südhessen, has informed the town of Riedstadt that it intends to focus more strongly on its core business in the healthcare sector in the future.
Supply remains secure
According to the city, there is currently no risk to residents: the heat supply remains guaranteed through existing contracts. Nevertheless, the city is using the situation to examine long-term alternatives as part of its municipal heat planning.
Mayor Markus Kretschmann also sees this development as an opportunity to improve the existing situation. The goal is a secure, climate-friendly, and at the same time affordable heat supply.
New solutions are being examined
According to the city, the district has a comparatively low heat density. This is due to modern buildings with low energy consumption. While this structure currently leads to higher network operating costs, it also opens up new possibilities.
Among those being discussed are:
- a new central heat supplier
- a decentralized supply with heat pumps
- alternative locations for a smaller heating plant
In particular, heat pumps could reduce costs and increase the independence of households in the long term.
Public participation planned
In the coming weeks, the city plans to hold talks with the current energy supplier, the network operator, and other partners. A public meeting is also planned to involve affected households early on and inform them about possible solutions.
