TuS is organizing a large family festival for its young handball players
The youngest handball players were the focus of attention in Griesheim this past weekend: Around 250 children from 23 teams gathered for the traditional Mini-Final of the Darmstadt handball district for a major sporting event. The tournament was once again organized by the handball players of TuS Griesheim.
Handball tournament becomes a family event
What was organized as a youth tournament once again turned into a large family festival this year. Besides the games, parents, siblings, and grandparents ensured a packed hall and a lively atmosphere.
For the organizers, the event presented a major logistical challenge. Match operations, catering, and the supporting program had to be coordinated to ensure a smooth experience for all guests.
Volunteers are making the event possible
An organizing team led by Ronald Bausch and Marius Meyer coordinated the tournament with the support of numerous volunteers from the club and surrounding community. The program was complemented by interactive activities from the youth fire brigade and the police.
In addition to the handball games, various activities were available for children. These included throwing games, a children's rodeo, and a small cinema as a place to relax between games.
Focus on developing young talent
The focus was deliberately not on sporting competition. In the youngest age group, no results are recorded. Instead, the emphasis is on gaining initial experience in team sports, fair play, and the joy of movement.
The importance of youth development was emphasized at the awards ceremony. The high level of participation shows that handball in the Darmstadt district can build on a broad foundation.

Positive feedback from participants
The feedback from families and coaches was overwhelmingly positive. The combination of sport, community, and commitment was considered by many to be a successful example of volunteer work in clubs.
Equipped with certificates and T-shirts, the children finally began their journey home – with many impressions and first experiences in handball.
