TSV looks back on a long tradition of running and walking
The running group of TSV Pfungstadt is celebrating a special anniversary: For 51 years, running and walking enthusiasts have been meeting regularly for joint training in Pfungstadt.
The movement began in 1975
The first running group in Pfungstadt took place on June 5, 1975. The initiator was Edwin Klöppinger, who brought the idea of running together to the town, following the example of earlier running groups. The meeting point remains the TSV sports center to this day.
The basic idea remains unchanged to this day: anyone can participate – regardless of age, performance level or club affiliation.
Development of running and walking groups
Over the years, the program has steadily evolved. In addition to traditional running groups, walking and later Nordic walking programs were added in the early 1990s. Various trainers have overseen this development and continuously expanded the offerings.
The program also included running badges for different time distances and participation in regional running events.
Decline in participant numbers after Corona
While the running group maintained stable participation numbers for many years, the groups have become significantly smaller since the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, only a few people regularly participate in the running and walking sessions.
Community is the focus
Besides the sporting aspect, the sense of community also plays an important role. Regular meetings, joint activities, and end-of-year celebrations are integral parts of the running club.
Events such as a joint "RunUp" followed by coffee and cake will continue to be organized.
Invitation to participate
TSV Pfungstadt hopes to inspire more people to take up running and walking together. Training takes place on marked routes between five and seven kilometers long.
The running sessions start at the TSV sports center at fixed times during the week and on weekends.
