Christina Brahm and Bijan Kaffenberger will lead the parliamentary group in the future
The SPD parliamentary group in Darmstadt has elected its new leadership. At the start of the new legislative period, the city councilors unanimously opted for a dual leadership structure with Christina Brahm and Bijan Kaffenberger as parliamentary group leaders.
Ulrike Schmidbauer and Tim Sackreuther were also unanimously elected as deputy chairpersons.
New impetus and local political experience
Christina Brahm has been politically active for 27 years and has chaired the Eberstadt SPD local branch for four years. She has also served as deputy chair of the Darmstadt SPD for two years. Her main areas of focus are social issues, municipal finances, and social cohesion.
Bijan Kaffenberger has been a member of the Hessian State Parliament for more than seven years and has chaired the SPD sub-district of Darmstadt for two years. Previously, he was, among other things, a member of the municipal council in Roßdorf and the district council of Darmstadt-Dieburg.
Kaffenberger sees this as a good basis for stronger cooperation with the district – especially on the topics of education, mobility, housing and commerce.
Michael Siebel is moving to the city council
Although the previous parliamentary group leader, Michael Siebel, was re-elected to the city council, he left the parliamentary group after his election to the city government.
He was elected as an honorary city councilor at the first meeting of the new city council.
The new co-leaders thanked Siebel for his many years of service at the head of the parliamentary group and wished him every success in his new honorary position.
