New pedestrian and cycle path aims to improve safety for everyone
Roadworks will begin on May 4th on Woogsweg in the Arheilgen district of Darmstadt. According to the City of Darmstadt, the road surface will be renewed and remarked until approximately May 13th.
Renovation covering approximately 650 square meters
The work affects the section between Jakob-Jung-Straße and the cycle and pedestrian path towards the SG Arheilgen sports grounds. A total area of approximately 650 square meters will be renovated.
The road will then receive new markings for a shared pedestrian and cycle path.
Response to local traffic problems
Woogsweg is an important connecting path to the daycare center, the sports field, and the Arheilger Mühlchen. At the same time, pedestrians, cyclists, and cars all share this narrow space.
Since there is currently no separate sidewalk, conflicts have repeatedly arisen between oncoming traffic. Residents have therefore called for improvements.
Mobility officer Paul Georg Wandrey sees the measure as an important step towards greater safety, especially for children and families.
Full closure and detours
During the construction work, the affected section will be completely closed. Access to the properties will not be possible during this time.
Traffic will be diverted via surrounding streets, including Jakob-Jung-Straße, Brüder-Grimm-Straße and Grillparzerstraße.
Costs of approximately 55,000 euros
The construction costs for the project amount to approximately 55,000 euros. The aim is to make the traffic situation safer and clearer in the long term.
