A joint bike tour with the Büttelborn Nature Friends led through the Mönchbruch
Members of the Odenwald Club Groß-Gerau met with the Büttelborn Nature Friends at the Mönchbruchhütte near Nauheim for their monthly bicycle tour. Led by Ursula Altwig, the varied route took them to natural and cultural sites in the Rhine-Main region.
Through the Mönchbruch nature reserve
From the Mönchbruch hut, the group initially followed well-maintained forest paths through the Mönchbruch nature reserve. They took their first break at the idyllic Gundwiesensee lake. The numerous young geese with their parents provided particularly interesting opportunities for observing nature.
Another stop was the former Walldorf subcamp of the concentration camp, which includes the Horváth memorial. The visit provided an opportunity to examine an important chapter of regional history.
View of the new Terminal 3
The group was also impressed by the view of the newly constructed Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport. The size of the buildings and the expansive grounds left a lasting impression on the participants.
The route then led past the historic "raisin bomber" to the viewing platform in Zeppelinheim. There, the cyclists could observe arriving aircraft up close. After a short stop at the Zeppelin Museum, the group continued to the Naturfreundehaus (Friends of Nature House) in Mörfelden, where they took a longer break.
Up to 50 kilometers by bike
After refreshments, the main group continued their tour towards Nickelsmühle before heading back. A smaller group chose a shorter route back to Nauheim.
At the end of a varied day, the odometers showed 44 or 50 kilometers, depending on the route. Despite occasional headwinds and summery temperatures, the approximately 20 participants from the Odenwald Club Groß-Gerau and the Nature Friends Büttelborn drew a positive conclusion from their joint bike tour.
