Weiterstadt uses summer closure for technical work, pool maintenance and renovations
Extensive maintenance, repair, and renovation work is taking place at the Weiterstadt indoor swimming pool during this year's summer closure . The city is using this downtime to renew the technical infrastructure and ensure the long-term reliability of the pool's operation.
All swimming pools are currently drained. They are being thoroughly cleaned and simultaneously inspected for potential damage such as cracks. The filter system is also being renewed, and various technical components are being replaced to improve operational safety. In addition, numerous minor repairs and maintenance tasks are planned.
A particular challenge is the supply of spare parts for the aging technology. The shower facilities are already around 20 years old, and suitable spare parts are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Therefore, the city plans to gradually replace the facilities with new systems from well-known manufacturers to ensure long-term maintenance and spare parts availability.
“We can’t carry out many tasks ourselves, so we cooperate with specialized companies. Especially when it comes to maintaining important technical systems like pumps, these have to be removed, overhauled in the workshops of specialized companies, and then reinstalled,” explains Mayor Niklas Gehnich. The schedule also depends on the workload of the contracted companies.
The city also points to the regularly held discussion about the timing of the annual closure. The summer holidays were deliberately chosen because fewer visitors use the indoor swimming pool during this time, and no school sports activities take place.
The indoor swimming pool is scheduled to reopen on Monday, August 10th . From 1 p.m. onwards , the pool will be open to visitors again during regular opening hours.
